chic braids (...are not just for celebrities)

French braids, side braids, fishtail braids...braids, braids, braids!  The braid has become quite the trend in hip hairstyles.  We all know our home girl LC (Lauren Conrad) has absolutely perfected the side braid style, almost to a point of unfairness...I mean, how can her hair always look perfect-not fair!  I am willing to forgive her because she provides inspiration and has encouraged me to try new hairstyles.  Other celebrities who successfully take part in this stylish fad include Jennifer Aniston, Sienna Miller, Blake Lively, Jessica Simpson and the Olson twins.  Not to mention, all my stylish friends and fashionable gals I see walking down the street who also sport fabulous hairstyles that include braids.

Now some of you may be thinking...I could never style my hair this way on my own.  I am here to tell you, you are wrong and you CAN do it (with a little help)!  Thanks to our friends at Google, you can learn just about anything from the comfort of your own home.  Here are some helpful techniques that I learned, take these and create an elegant braid that suites your personality and style.

This look is actually very simple.  Choose a comfortable side part and then start a small french braid along your hairline.  Continue the braid to behind your ear and secure it there with bobby pins.  Then cover the pins with the rest of your hair.  You can leave your hair straight or create a wavy beach look.  Finish it all off with a little hair spray to hold everything in place!

This look also starts with a side part.  Then start a french braid at your part that angles toward the back of your head.  Continue the braid until you reach the top of your neck and use and rubber band and/or bobby pins to secure it there.  Then gather all of your hair and create a bun.  Again, hair spray is a must to hold it all together!

*Note: If you don't know how to french braid, here is a helpful video.  Also with both of the previous styles you could also use a reverse french braid to create a different and unique look!

Now, for my favorite style of braiding (as of today), the fishtail braid.  Here is a step by step to creating this look:
1. Divide your hair into 2 equal sections.
2. Holding both sections in your right hand, take a small strand from the outside of the left sections and join it with the right section.
3. Repeat on the other side.
4. Continue until you reach a desired length.

Now go out and create or discover your own chic braid...
