celebrate!

There is a lot to celebrate this time of year!  New year's is around the corner and today is MY birthday!  Yippee!  This year is extra special because it is my golden birthday (I am turning 29th on the 29th).  I am not exactly sure why that makes it extra special, but I sure like the sound of it!  Who doesn't like to ring in a celebration with a glass of bubbles?  I cannot wait to celebrate the next few days and ring in the new year with a lovely glass of champagne.  I am thinking about enjoying one of these fun champagne cocktails...cheers!

thank-you notes

I hope you all had a lovely holiday!  We spent time with our wonderful families and friends and quite a bit of time in our car!  Sadly, after a week away it is back to the grind today (sigh!).  We were very lucky to receive so many lovely gifts.  I am sure many of you also received some special presents, too!  In my opinion, one of the most important parts of receiving gifts is to give a proper "thank-you" to the gift giver. Not verbally or via the internet, but a nice hand written thank-you note.  Unfortunately, for some, hand written notes and letters have become a lost art.  This is a lovely gesture that should never go out of style!  I love these guidelines for writing a proper thank-you note.

the basics:
1. greet the giver
2. express your gratitude
3. discuss use
4. mention the past, allude to the future
5. grace
6. regards

I encourage you all to start writing your holiday thank-you notes today!

p.s. - thank-you to my parents for teaching me this etiquette from the time I could write! ;)

bloody mary mix

We are celebrating Christmas with my husbands family today!  Holidays, vacations, and weekends tend to be the only "appropriate" times to have morning cocktails.  Since today is Christmas #1 we are celebrating with bloody mary's!  Ty and I have been working on mastering our recipe and we think we have found the perfect mix!  Mmmm...

mix ingredients:
46 oz. tomato juice
2 tbsp. worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp. prepared horseradish
1 tsp. celery salt
2 tsp. old bay seasoning
2 tsp. black pepper
2-3 tbsp. hot sauce (3 is spicy)
1 1/2 limes freshly squeezed

mix preparation:
Mix all ingredients together, and chill overnight for the perfect flavor!

cocktail preparation:
Combine equal parts bloody mary mix with vodka of choice - we used jalapeno infused.  (Adjust vodka to mix ratio to personal taste)

stocking stuffers

With Christmas just a few days away it is time to put the finishing touches on your holiday shopping.  One of my favorite parts of holiday shopping is finding fun stocking stuffers.  My husband and I always exchange a handful of little gifts in each others stockings.  It is a fun tradition and it is always fun to pick out the items and "open" our stockings.  Here are a few fun stocking stuffers for the gals...

1. overstock, bird nest iphone case
2. klean kanteen, water bottle
3. american apparel, bow hair clip
4. korres, lip treatment
5. emi-jay, hair ties
6. baggu, reusable tote
7. j.crew, socks
8. belina, soap
9. voluspa, japonica candle tin

What are your favorite stocking stuffers?

diy gift - infused spirits

It can be hard to find unique , personal and creative gifts for everyone on your list.  This year we decided that it would be fun to make infused spirits to give friends and family.  It makes a very cute gift when paired with a fun bottle and some lovely add-ons!  Infusing the spirits is easy and you can create any flavor your heart desires.  Simply add your fresh fruit, vegetable, spice, etc to the spirit of your choice in an air tight bottle or jar.  Store the bottle in a cool dry place for 2-5 days, until the spirit has reached the desired level of flavor (stronger flavors infuse quicker than more mild items).  Once completed pour the spirit through a filter into a bottle.  Voila you have a lovely little gift!

Lemon-Raspberry Vodka
Strawberry-Basil Vodka
Jalapeno Vodka
